Leah Anketell

Leah AnketellLeah Anketell was born in Bulli, NSW in 1984. In 1986 the Anketell family moved to Glen Innes - a small town of 3000 in NSW's Northern Tablelands. A chronic asthma sufferer, Leah spent most of her childhood & adolescent years in Glen Innes hospital, where she began using her time to create art - with the help and encoragement of her two grandfathers; both artists.

Completing her Fine Art studies in 2007, Leah graduated with high distinctions in painting, life drawing & sculpture.

Since graduating Leah has exhibited widely around Australia and has rapidly amassed a large support base that now includes over 6,000 facebook followers.

In 2012 Leah staged her first sell-out solo exhibition - 'Bailout' - in the Northern Rivers. In 2014 she was voted People’s Choice Winner at the prestigious Byron Arts Classic and is rapidly establishing a reputation as one of Australia’s hottest young artists.

In her current series, 'Animal Instincts', Leah’s cast of characters has been expanded to include: dogs, cats, rabbits, roosters and goldfish ... all imbued with such human emotion that you quickly lose sight of subject and technique and find yourself responding to the very real emotions that lie just below the surface.
